A Midsummer Tidal Pull: A Wedding Poem For Molly John by Will Gatlin Lyrics
Now, fair Hippolyta, our nuptial hour
Draws on apace; four happy days bring in
Another moon
The moon is so close,
Its gravity is forcing the ocean to rise.
Already the earth is pulling satellites from the sky.
And the Moon pulls the Sea closer…
That was when we heard the first crack of a lunar meteorite falling to the Earth:
I admit we knew we'd get in trouble. That part's true. We knew people would be worried, and we still ran away. But something also happened, which we didn't do on purpose. When we first met each other, something happened to us.
He said, “Why do you always use binoculars?”
She said, “It helps me see things closer. Even if they're not very far away. I pretend it's my magic power.”
And the Moon, enlarged by the telescope, appeared to me in all its details.
I'll be looking at the moon, but I'll be seeing you
I saw her breaking away from all the other lights of the sky and the streets, standing out in the concave map of darkness,
like a hole through which the light spreads,
Anyway I saw it was becoming a thing-
That by choosing two aspects of a subject, each can be examined in light of the other in order to better illuminate the entire subject.
Four days will quickly steep themselves in night;
Four nights will quickly dream away the time;
And then the moon, like to a silver bow
New-bent in heaven, shall behold the night you bear witness to a sacred test of love:
For love is strong as death;
As boundless as the sea,
In every lovely summer's day
Barefoot on a summer night,
Its flashes are flashes of fire.
Now here is my secret, a very simple secret:
She's now a little girl. And she loves a little boy.
And the whole world is out of balance.
It was dawn; the storm of meteorites was over; the Earth around us was unrecognizable,
And just one look at you
And I know it's gonna be
A lovely day.
