Re: Sign The Petition To Bring Maboo Back by Tom Lehman Lyrics
Lemon's Reply to "Sign The Petition To Bring Maboo Back"No one understands @Maboo’s strengths better than @MetaWorldPeace and i, nor is anyone more loyal to him than we are. People criticized maboo when we started this site with him, and they continued to criticize him every step of the way since. But meta and i have always stuck with him.
And even now, what happened had to happen in order to fulfill the vision of this project – a vision that maboo himself was instrumental in defining (while we were at the lake at stanford as i’m sure you’ve read in interviews). This vision is to make rap genius part of the fabric of the internet. Someday every website, app, and school for that matter will be genius-powered.
We didn’t have to take this on as our plan, we could have tried to stay small, but maboo knew as well as anyone that this wasn’t possible – all of human culture is interconnected, and so if you’re going to annotate any part of it you’ll soon end up having to annotate everything. So that’s where we are today.
In the early days, when no one cared about us, what we founders said didn’t matter much. But now we’re trying to convince big deal engineers to leave safe jobs at “real” companies and college professors to endorse us to their classrooms as the best way to do close reading. And so we founders (and all of us really) must pay attention to how broad the rap genius mission is today and push ourselves to be inclusive to everyone who’s a part of it
This is the only way for us to achieve our extremely ambitious goals; to make sure rap genius becomes and stays the biggest website in the world, and to make everyone realize that maboo, crazy tho he might have seen, was right all along when he called our shot years ago.
