King Kunta Title Analysis by TheRapExpert Lyrics
"King Kunta" is the third track on Kendrick Lamar's prominent new album "To Pimp a Butterfly" in which Lamar explores various ideas, especially on the societal norms that are nowadays prominent in Western Societ (especially in the United States). Only the title of the track itself, brings forth many ideas and motifs, which I will further discuss in this analyisis
The title "King Kunta" is especially striking to the viewer because it brings forth such a clear contrast between a "king" who represents power and wealth, and the slave Kunta who was contradictingly at the bottom of society during his life. This could possibly represent Kendrick Lamar's personal experience when it comes to ones position in society, as he himself was a the bottom, but through his music career became very wealthy
"King Kunta" furthermore is an alliteration through which Kendrick Lamar can emphasize "King" and "Kunta" can very well be similiar in many ways. In the end we are all humans: wether a king or a slave. Is what Kendrick Lamar might be saying through this allitertaion
Wether Kendrick Lamar really had all this in mind when writing the text and creating the title is dubious. Kendrick Lamar being, in my opinion, one of the best and most intelligent artists when it comes to the communication of themes and ideas, I dare bet he did
