Costume - Extended by The Shindellas Lyrics
[Intro]
Turn your stereo up
Turn your stereo up
'Cause what you're about to hear
Is a just little dose of
Our unique point of view
We’ve got nothing to lose
The Shindellas only come to tell the truth
Stacey's an innocent face
But man, she's mean on the bass
Then Kasi sings up above
'Cause love is her middle name
Then there's Tam
Bam
Alakazam
That girl can sing, sing, sing
Like the best of 'em can
Turn your stereo up
Turn your stereo up
'Cause what you’re about to hear
Is just a little dose of
Our unique point of view
We’ve got nothing to lose
The Shindellas only come to tell the truth
The Shindellas only come to tell the truth
We’re the Shindellas
The Shindellas only come to tell the truth
[Music transitions]
[Verse 1]
Out here trying to have a good time, yeah
No worries
Leave your troubles behind, yeah
Lay back and be whatever you like
If you open your mind
We can make it alright
[Pre-Chorus]
'Cause all we want is love
All we got is us
Baby, that’s enough
So show me what you’re feeling inside
[Chorus]
I want to see the real you
Let me see the real you
Can I see the real you
Ain't gotta wear your costume tonight
I want to see the real you
Let me see the real you
Can I see the real you
Ain’t gotta wear your costume tonight
[Verse 2]
Anyone who ain't helping you shine, yeah
You don't need ‘em
Better leave 'em behind, yeah
Same goes for the love of your life
If he ain't treating you right
Better tell him goodbye
[Pre-Chorus]
'Cause all we want is love
All we got is us
Baby, that’s enough
So show me what you’re feeling inside
[Chorus]
I want to see the real you
Let me see the real you
Can I see the real you
Ain't gotta wear your costume tonight
I want to see the real you
Let me see the real you
Can I see the real yoU
Ain't gotta wear your costume tonight
Ooh talk to 'em
If you wanna know
We’re the Shindellas
Won’t lie to ya
We’re truth tellers
If you don't feel good
You might feel better if
You put the mask down
We can turn it around, yeah
If you wanna know
We’re the Shindellas
Won’t lie to ya
We’re truth tellers
If you don’t feel good
You might feel better if
You might feel much better
Let me see you
[Chorus:]
I want to see the real you
Let me see the real you
Can I see the real you
Ain’t gotta wear your costume tonight
I want to see the real you
(I really wanna, I really really wanna)
Let me see the real you
(I really wanna, I really really wanna)
Can I see the real yoU
(I really wanna)
Ain’t gotta wear your costume tonight
Ooh talk to ‘em
(Ooooooo-oooh-oooh-oooh-oooh)
If you put the the mask down, we can turn it around, yeah
(Ooooooo-oooh-oooh-oooh-oooh)
Talk to ‘em ladies, you better tell ‘em
(Ooooooo-oooh-oooh-oooh-oooh)
If you put the the mask down, we can turn it around, yeah
(Ooooooo-oooh-oooh-oooh-oooh)
Oh oooh Oh
(Ooooooo-oooh-oooh-oooh-oooh)
If you put the the mask down, we can turn it around, yeah
(Ooooooo-oooh-oooh-oooh-oooh)
Talk to ‘em ladies, you better tell ‘em
(Ooooooo-oooh-oooh-oooh-oooh)

Genesis
[Spoken: Stacey]
Being from Chicago
And having Jamaican parents
We stayed in a Jamaican community
And I think that affects what I bring
With how I sing
There’s this really driven part of me
That I get from my parents
We work really hard
We’re not afraid to get our hands dirty
And do our best in what we do
[Spoken: Tam]
My hometown
Martin, Texas
Was very small
And very country
I’m talking catfish and spaghetti “country”
And I come from such incredibly strong black women
Who were extremely into their faith
And into church
And so
The gospel
The rawness of the sermons
And just that whole church element
Like it’s like in me
I can’t fight it
I can’t hide it
I’ve tried
But the church gon’ come out
[Spoken: Kasi]
Washington
The Pacific Northwest is just so gorgeous
You’re just surrounded by life
You’re surrounded by green trees
And mountains
And rivers
And lakes
Andpeople who genuinely seem to appreciate
Their environment
And it’s an Art’s town
You know
I’m just like this bang-a-rang mish mash of all of this stuff
Just all of this information
