Wistmans Wood by The Broke Moakers Music Band Lyrics

Genre: rock | Year: 2017

Sleepless in Devon in early December
By the old city wall under the Exeter skies
A misty and dark night I do remember
The city lights were blured by my watery eyes

And the mighty cathedral was standing there so tall
We were sheltering down by the old city wall
River Exe drifting slowly through it all
We were walking down main street down by
The grand City hall

We'd played at the Angel earlier that night
My friend Timmy and I under the merciful light
Of the Angels pub down in Queen street
Where hearts were dancing to the rythm beat

And we played the sadest songs I know
While keeping a lookout for your face in the crowd
And I kept searching, looking around
But you were gone and nowhere to be found

So I bought myself a pair of army boots
And I took you for a hike to Whistman's woods
To walk, see and feel the widespread peet
And to feel the soil under my feet

A hard march later through the rain and mud
We stood there gazing at Wistman’s wood
And we saluted the ancient trees of Dartmoor
As many a wanderer has done before

Bridge:
I've got a good pair of boots to wear when I'm down
That will take me dry-feeted to the far end of town
Where I sometimes go.. to think about life for
A while

We fought our way back to reality again
Through the darkness and the heavy rain
And all the way back to Main street
And we parted --- for never again to meet
