Riddles From The Book Of Exeter 61-70 by Riddle Genius Lyrics

Genre: misc | Year: 2014

61. A lovely woman, a lady, often locked me
in a chest; at times she took me out
with her fingers, and gave me to her lord
and loyal master, just as he asked.
Then he poked his head inside me,
pushed it up until it fitted tightly.
I, adorned, was bound to be filled
with something rough if the loyal lord
could keep it up. Guess what I mean.

62. I'm strong and pointed. Shuddering I die,
a violent release. For my reputable master
I'll plunge below the plimsoll line,
well and truly engineer an opening.
A desperate man stands behind me and develops me
himself; he carries a cloth. A southerner sometimes
helps me out of a hot spot (a real hole),
sometimes he gets me into a fix
and forces me. Say what I am called.

65. Quick; quite mum; I die notwithstanding.
I lived once, I live again. Everybody
lifts me, grips me, and chops off my head,
bites my bare body, violates me.
I don't bite a man unless he bites me;
there are many men who bite me.

66.I stretch beyond the bounds of the world,
I'm smaller than a worm, clearer than the moon,
swifter than the sun, Swelling seas,
and the lap of the earth, the green fields,
are within my clasp. I cover the depths,
and plunge beneath hell; I ascend above heaven,
highland of glory; I stretch across
the region of angels; I fill the earth
with myself - this whole middle-earth
and the oceans streams. Say what my name is.

69. On the way a miracle: water becomes bone.

70. This creature is odd, its habits unaccountable.
It sings through its sides. Its neck is curved,
skillfully carved, and above its back
it has pointed shoulders. It plays its fated part
as, gracefully, it stands by the roadside,
high and handsome, useful to me.
