Brutus originally was a very honorable and great man. Even after his disgraceful acts many still considered him n honorable man because everything he ever did was to help Rome. He truly believed hat he was right and tat he was the one who should fix Rome’s problems, even if nothing was wrong. Brutus, in his own mind, portrayed himself as the hero in 2 ways his personal and political beliefs and his motives for making life changing decisions.
Brutus beliefs make him portray himself as a hero, because of his vengeance directed towards Caesar. This is influenced by his characteristics and political beliefs.” Which so appearing to the common eyes, we shall be called purgers not murderers” (document E). Brutus believes that killing Caesar will make them look like they were getting rid of something bad. Thus seem like heroes. This is the main reason why they killed Caesar because they want to protect the people of Rome.” O, that we then could come by Caesar’s spirit, and not dismember Caesar” (document E). Brutus believes that Caesar’s spirit is the thing that killed him. If Caesar would have paid more attention to the people of his own spirit they wouldn’t be doing this. These beliefs of Brutus prove that Brutus believes that what he is doing is justified and he is a hero to the Roman people.
Brutus motives for making the choice to kill Caesar? “But, Caesar must bleed it “(Document E). Brutus is saying that after dealing with Caesar and his long reign he must die. This proves that Brutus refuses to believe that what his is planning is murderous and wrong. Brutus’s motivation was that he believed that Caesar was a selfish leader and that what he was doing was justified. This intern (in his mind) supported his actions.
Brutus was tricked by a person that he relied on, Cassius. Little did he know that Cassius had ulterior motives behind killing Caesar. This motivated his actions. In the end Brutus truly believed that he was doing something good for his people. Even though thought was noble his actions was not.
