The Cuckoo in the Depths of the Forest by Peter Schickele Lyrics

Genre: pop | Year: 1993

[Introductory Poem]

Their name sounds pretty crazy
Yet they're really very square
Although they own no mattresses
There's ticking everywhere
They live in mansions they don't build
And no rent do they pay
They work one minute - maybe two - out of every day

By now, you've probably figured out
These creatures live in clocks
If cuckoo birds are crazy
Man, they're crazy like a fox
Their woodland cousins live in a world
Of dappled light and shade
But the cuckoo birds who live in clocks
Are the ones who have it made

They're punctual, reliable
And never the least remiss
They're smart, and rich, and a trifle dull
What can I say - they're Swiss
