Sugar Mountain Live Young Shakespeare by Neil Young Lyrics
[Chorus]
Oh to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons
You can't be 20 on Sugar Mountain
Though you're thinking that you're leavin' there too soon
You're leavin' there too soon
[Dialog]
(That was really gross, folks
Shh, right here in Shakespeare's own place, man
But if you can live with it, I guess it's all right
It's not that serious)
[Verse 1]
It's so noisy at the fair
But all your friends are there
And the candy floss you had
And your mother and your dad
[Chorus]
Oh to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons
You can't be 20 on Sugar Mountain
Though you're thinking that you're leavin' there too soon
You're leavin' there too soon
[Dialog]
(When I wrote this song, I wrote 126 verses
Every six months I have a meeting in my head
To decide what I'm gonna, you know, what makes it, what doesn't
That's happening here
The whole meeting was taken up with trying to figure out what verses to use
Nothing else got even brought up
I was only twenty years old
The verses were all so bad that I couldn't decide
But this verse here, I decided to use
Because I thought that out of 126 it was the worst one
And I thought it rated some merit there)
[Verse 2]
Now you're underneath the stairs
And you're giving back some glares
To the people that you met
And it's your first cigarette
[Dialog]
(Get it?
Now if I can stand up here in this great theater
In front of you university students and sing something like that
And you can't sing with me when I sing this part
It's a little imbalanced somewhere)
*sings* Oh to live on Sugar Mountain
(Yeah, sing it with me
Woo, sing it with me)
[Chorus]
Oh to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons
You can't be 20 on Sugar Mountain
Though you're thinking that you're leavin' there too soon
[Verse 3]
Now you say you're leaving home
Because you want to be alone
Ain't it funny how you feel
When you're findin' out it's real?
[Chorus]
Oh to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons
You can't be 20 on Sugar Mountain
Though you're thinking that you're leavin' there too soon
You're leavin' there too soon
(Let's do it once more, for William Shakespeare
Real loud, like it was really his twentieth birthday, folks)
Oh to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons
You can't be 20 on Sugar Mountain
Though you're thinking that you're leavin' there too soon
You're leavin' there too soon
Oh to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons
You can't be 20 on Sugar Mountain
Though you're thinking that you're leavin' there too soon
You're leavin' there too soon
