The Lost Good Hell by Lu Xun Lyrics
I dreamed myself lying on a bed in cold wilderness, a neighbor of hell. None of the ghostly howls was not frail yet orderly. The roar of flames, the gurgle of oil pots, the clang of tridents, a symphony of heart-drunkening euphoria. Proclaim this upon the Trailokya: The Great Peace has descended from Above!
A grand man stood before me, handsome, loving and kind, aura surrounding his whole body, and yet I knew he was Demon.
"All is finished, all is finished! The poor ghosts havе lost that good hell!" said he with grief and indignation, and sat down to tеll me a story he knew—
"The moment heaven and earth were honey-colored, was the moment Demon triumphed over the gods and grasped the great hegemony over all. He reclaimed the Deva, the Manusyaloka, and the Naraka. Then he condescended to Naraka, sitting acenter, a blinding light from all over his body illuminating the entire crowd of hell beings."
"By then, Naraka was long abandoned: sword trees had lost their sheen, edges of oil pots boiled no more, the grand ocean of fire merely smoked here and there. In the distance were a few Datura flowers, so feeble, pale, and pitiable—unsurprising, as the soil had been exhaustively burnt, and naturally had lost its vital riches."
"The ghosts awoke in the cold oil pots and lukewarm flames, and saw, in the light of Demon, those little blossoms of Naraka, so pale and pitiable, and were overcome with such great delusion that, in an eidetic flash, they recalled the Manusyaloka, and contemplated for unnumbered years. Then in one shaking shout towards Humanity, they rebelled against Naraka."
"At the shout, Humanity stepped up, Paladin-like, and battled with Demon. The clamor of war drowned the Trailokya, spreading further than storm-thunder. With grand strategy and vast envelopment maneuvers, they finally forced Demon into exile. The final victory is sealed with the banner of Humanity stabbed upon the gate of Naraka!"
"When all the ghosts cheered together, the Emissary of Orders arrived at Naraka, and sitting acenter, commanded the crowd of ghosts with the full majesty of Humanity."
"When again the ghosts shouted rebellion against Naraka, they became traitors of Humanity, and earned their eternal degradation. They were transported to the middle of the forest of swords."
"Thus Humanity fully usurped the great hegemony of Naraka, their grandeur even above that of Demon. Thus Humanity undertook a sweeping campaign of institutional rectification, first giving the Taurocephalos the highest salary of hay. They also added wood to the flames and sharpened the mountains of blades. Behold, Naraka was made anew, cleansed of its previous dilapidation."
"The Datura flowers shriveled immediately. The oil still scalding, the blades still cutting, the flames still blazing, the crowd of ghosts still moaning their cadenced agony. They could not even steal a moment of mind to recall their lost good hell."
"This is the victory of Humanity, the calamity of ghosts..."
"My friend, you are doubting me. Indeed, you are a human! I shall seek the wild beasts and the evil ghosts..."
