“I don’t want to get in trouble.” she said, though she didn’t seem worried. I shrugged and unlocked the door slowly. When I walked in it was like I was in a movie, my mom was sitting in the living room and as soon as I opened the door she turned on a lamp. I was surprised to see she was smiling. I turned around and Kay had disappeared somewhere up the stairs. My mom got up off the couch and limped over to me. This limp was normal for my mom, she's had it for a few years because my dad broke her left knee one day. He broke it so bad my mom had to havе surgery and now she has a limb. She camе over and gave me a tight hug. She pulled away and rubbed my shoulders, she was about to speak when I heard a small high pitched, “Sissy!” from behind her. I looked over her shoulder and there he was, “Ollie!” I screamed as I gently pushed my mom away and ran toward my little brother. He leaped into my arms, wrapping his arms around my neck. I wrapped my arms around his small body, I buried my face in the small crook of his neck. I held him like that for a while, talking to him. I pulled away and wrapped his legs around my hips so I was carrying him. He looked at me, I had tears in my eyes, I hadn’t seen him in months and I missed everything about him. His shimmery brown eyes, the way his hair was always scruffy in the most adorable way. The fact that he was in a bow tie made this moment even cuter. I held him on my hip, “How have you been Ollie?” I asked him quietly. He looked at me and used his little hand to move his hair out of his eyes. The smile just slightly twitched into a frown, I rubbed his back making his smile reappear.
He put his hand down on my shoulder, pulling his head down to lean against my chest. “After you left daddy stawted to scream at me, moor.” he said, yawning. I looked back at my mom, she sighed and nodded. I took a deep breath and walked up the stairs to our guest bedroom, where Ollie would be sleeping. I tucked him in and kissed him on the head, “Goodnight Ollie.” I whispered, closing the door behind me. I walked back down the stairs to face my mom, who was sitting down on the couch with a glum look on her face. I knew that what Ollie said had upset her, “It’s okay mom. He’s here with us now. Dad can’t get to him now.” I said, soothingly sitting down next to her and wrapping my arms around her. She leaned her body into mine and cried softly, “My poor baby.” she choked out between sobs. I held her and rubbed her back, whispering sweet little nothings into her ear, to calm her down. After a few minutes Kay came downstairs and made us some tea. I blew on it slightly, “Thanks Kay. Hey mom, is Ollie going to be staying here with us?” I asked, curiously. She took a sip from her yoda mug and nodded. My insides burst with happiness, it was a calm moment so I didn’t want to scream and jump up and down. My brother Ollie is everything to me and the fact that my dad would do that to him is sad and horrific. I went to bed 20 minutes later, ready to awake the next day, Friday August, 19.
A week later. I woke up to Ollie jumping on me screaming my name. I push him onto the bed, lightly, and check my phone. This child woke me up 3 hours early and I knew that I wasn’t going to be able to go back to sleep. So, I went downstairs to make Oliver some breakfast before I got ready. I made him a bowl of cereal because I can’t cook. I ate my own bowl and went upstairs again to get ready for school. I took a long shower and put on a pair of ripped jeans and a black and white ugly division shirt with a red long sleeve shirt underneath. I used a red belt to tie everything together and threw on my black lace up vans. I just left my hair down and used some butterfly clips for style. I walked out of the bathroom to see Kay sitting on my bed, ready, on her phone. She looked up from her phone, “Impeccable style as always.” she said, in a matter of fact tone. She stood up and held out her hand, “Shall we go my lady.” she said, bowing. I chuckled and took her hand.
We walked downstairs hand in hand, Ollie was sitting on the living room floor playing with legos. My mom was on the couch watching him, me and Kay said bye before grabbing our backpacks and walking to my car. I got in the driver's side and we went to Dunkin’ to get my daily iced coffee. As soon as we got our coffee Kay looked over at me, her eyes dreamy, “So, are you excited to see Corbyn today.” she stated, softly. I gulped down the coffee that was in my mouth so I wouldn’t spit it all over the dash. I looked at her, we were stopped at a red light, “Excuse me?” I exclaimed, my eyes wide, “Where did you get that idea?” I was in disbelief, just then my phone got a notification, I looked at my phone, it was a text from an unknown number.
Unknown: “Hi, sorry I got to you so late. I was honestly scared to text you.”
Cass: “Who are you?”
Unknown: “Oh, sorry. It’s Corbyn.”
I let out a breath I didn’t even know I was holding in. I smiled slightly, the light had turned green so I put my phone down without answering him.
Kay kept asking me who had texted me, she tried to grab my phone a few times. I just ignored her until she stopped. We met Gabbie at the gate, at the front of the school, and they walked me to my locker which was by the bathrooms. They were talking to me as I was getting out my stuff. I was grabbing my pencil when Gabbie gasped. I looked up at her, she was staring behind me at the bathrooms, eyes wide. I looked over to the bathrooms and saw him walking out of the boys bathroom. His steps were as graceful as ever, even his style was perfect. Though he was only wearing a pair of ripped jeans and a simple brown v-neck with the word “supreme” on it, in yellow, he looked exquisite. He looked up from his very white converse and made direct eye contact with me. His eyes shimmered with a sort of excitement, I practically fell off my feet and had to use Kay for support. He got closer and let out a small chuckle, it wasn’t deep but blissful and charming. When he got to me he tilted his head slightly. It made my heart melt, my bones felt like jelly and I almost collapsed again.
His smile only grew wider when I fell again, this time using his arm as a support. I blushed a bright shade of pink and stood up straight up. He chuckled again, ‘You good Cass?’ he signed, his hands moving seamlessly through the air perusal.
I smiled at the nickname, “Yeah, I’m fine Corbs, thanks.” I said, nervously, fiddling with my necklace again.
