Art In Violence by Jason Craig Lyrics

Genre: misc | Year: 2009

[BEOWULF]
When I retaliate it's death I create
When I do death it's what I do best

[ACADEMIC 3]
Right, so we're supposed to learn something from your battles? Is that it?

[BEOWULF]
Yet you distort my purpose
With your analytical wash kit
Cleaning the dirt of my battles
Through your critical bullshit

There's art in violence
Violence is art!
So art is violent
And violence makes art

Who is-?
Give me my dragon!
[ACADEMIC 3]
Yes! Yes, of course! You need your dragon, sure!
Your dragon tore your villages down, people have died.
Your neighbors are corpses. There's a pile of bones and flesh smoking. A wreckage, a mess, is amassed at your feet, with dust and decay spoiling the air-

[BEOWULF]
Stop it!

[ACADEMIC 3]
Yes, it's sad. I get it. But why can't you sift through the rubble and take time to breathe?

[BEOWULF]
Enough of this textbook rambling please
My honor I must defend

[ACADEMIC 3]
There's beauty in sitting, you know!

[BEOWULF]
My dragon death is all I need now
I'm a warrior til the end

[ACADEMIC 3]
Is it that you can't cope with all this loneliness as you age?
Is that what it is, Beowulf? Are you suddenly realizing that society is built on strength of youth, not has-been done-dids with bad hip and liver spots and blood clots? Afraid your retinue is sick of hearing your old war stories and they will move you into a retirement community, with nurses whispering behind your back, and bed-bags full of messy fluids?
[BEOWULF]
There's art in violence!

[ACADEMIC 3]
I'm sorry! I'm just trying to understand. I mean, is it simply your midlife crisis that's chasing you down? Is your dragon like a mythical red sports car? With painted wing decals, and rumbling muffler? Or more like a Kevorkian pill that you must swallow before your mouth dries shut completely? Would it be so sad to die slowly in bed, would that be so bad, Beowulf?

[BEOWULF]
This is my body!

[ACADEMIC 3]
Maybe you don't need to run to your dragon with heavy sword swinging to take that dignity back! Yet off you trot, immediately, with weapon brandished burning.

[BEOWULF]
I process; I think!

[ACADEMIC 3]
You think yourself held lofty. Big Hero Beowulf! Who is this vengeance going to help, Beowulf, this valiance? Will your dead townfolk people grow strength from your deeds? Will this bring peace?

[BEOWULF]
This is what I do.

[ACADEMIC 3]
You could just sit for a while. Just sit. Just sit and think. And let those thoughts wash over you.
