The Complexity of Love

People define “love” in so many different ways
Usually on the basis of what the media projects it to be
This edenic fantasy where all relationships are guaranteed stability with it embroiled its consistency
The perfect mixture, in essence. But let’s not pretend to bring rationale into understanding what love’s really about because our measurements of love are both inaccurate and inadequate
Love is something stronger than what we could ever imagine, think or feel
Love is the courage to stand beside someone even if that means you’re all alone
Love is generous, flawless, indescribable
Love is timeless, it has no expiry date nor age limit
Love is perfect and unshakeable
Love is as strong as it is fragile
You see, what really gets me is the depth to love itself
Its like a well that has no end
A world where sense is discarded to accommodate the rest
So what is the love that we claim to know?
Is it in alignment to the scriptures contained in the Book of Wisdom which identify love as God himself?
The embodiment of what love can ever hope to represent
There’s a famous saying that goes “a couple that prays together stays together”
There’s also others that say “two’s company, three’s a crowd”
So be careful who you keep around who and what you love and never misplace spirituality in that equation
Because its blatant love is not of this world but its remnants and teachings not at all absent within it
Love is not forced but felt
Love is not lust nor sex
Love is not taught or instructed
Love keeps no records of wrongs or ill doings but sees beyond them
Love is hard work but incredibly rewarding
So I ask again: is the standard of love we preach or claim to know in accordance or in need of reforming?
Love is awesome, what I see relationships crave but men stave off its hold to play games with minds and hearts
Plucking at strings to open the door to what they’d been begging for but quick to label someone a whore right afterward
Love knows of no ambivalence
Its decisive, headstrong and outspoken
Love perseveres even in the midst of seemingly inevitable defeat
Love is what we preach to want but what to fail to understand
But then again, love isn’t a simple idea or emotion to get our heads around
