Mickey Never Came Back by Ethereal Snake Lyrics
Prologue
[Mickey]
Give a farmer seed and he'll create food. Give a musician a melody and he'll create music. Give a soldier an enemy, and he'll create nothing. He only destroys. Kills. I wonder if God watches the events that unfurl when men take up arms against men. And I'm afraid that when I die, God will care about the things I've done. But I think I'm more afraid that He won't. That He'll sit there, picking His nails, barely able to summon the energy to judge me. Because what then? What if bad men aren't judged fairly? People tell me to fear hell, but there comes a point where you've done such awful things that you have to wonder if the devil will welcome you as a friend when you arrive. The truth is . . . I don't believe in anything anymore.
Vietnam - Two Years Earlier
[Mickey]
The godforsaken Vietcong are winning. Their fortresses are trees and holes, and their coming at us with spears and traps, and they're winning. But not for long. We've found their headquarters, deep in the heart of Cambodia, and our informant tells us that their is information there that will win us the war. In and out: a mission we've done a thousand times.
[Donald]
We're here! See you on the other side boys! May God be with you!
[Mickey]
Goofy, the documents! Can you see them Goofy?
[Goofy]
I found them Mickey!
What the . . . ?
[Mickey]
God damn it! We've been spot! Goofy, hurry up! Enemy incoming! What are you doing?!
That should hold them back for a while!
It's the extraction point, Goofy. We made it. I'm calling in an airstrike.
We require an airstrike on our position. I repeat. We need an airstrike on our position.
[Donald]
Arriving shortly at the landing zone. Hang in there, boys.
[Mickey]
Did you get the documents, Goofy?
[Goofy]
I did. But there was something else.
[Mickey]
What are you talking about?
[Goofy]
It's . . .
[Mickey}
It's what?
[Goofy]
It's a dossier. I read it, Mickey. Do you have any idea what the Americans are doing here with the Vietnamese people?! Mickey, it's . . .
[Mickey]
Hand it over. We need to destroy it.
[Goofy]
But Mickey, we can't destroy it. The world needs to know about what they're doing here. We need to leak these to the press.
[Mickey]
That's treason!
[Goofy]
But it could end the war! It will save thousands, Mickey. We have to do what's right. We can't let this go on.
[Mickey]
Goofy . . .
[Goofy]
Once the people back home see what's happening here, support for this pointless fighting will collapse. I'll get to see my wife. My kids. We'll get to go home, Mickey.
[Mickey]
There's nothing left for me back home, Goofy. War is the only thing that holds me together; it's all I know. We're soldiers, Goofy. We don't question, we act.
[Goofy]
But Mickey . . .
[Mickey]
Hand over the file! That's an order Goofy! We can't let that information get out!
[Goofy]
We have to. It's our moral obligation. We can't let them go on with this.
[Mickey]
But Goofy . . .
[Goofy]
If you want the files, you're going to have to kill me.
[Mickey]
Don't make me choose between my country and you. You're like a brother to me.
[Goofy]
Then look me in the eye when you do it. Tell my kids . . . I love them.
