The Hanging Tree by Craig Bonner Lyrics
[Verse 1]
The sun shines down
Upon the tree on the hill
Summer starts to fade
And the air begins to chill
Legend tells a tale
Of a man who was found
Hung upon a cross
Upon this very sacred ground
He was laid in a tomb
And sealed with a stone
The stone was rolled away
Three days later, he arose
He walked upon the earth
For another forty days
And he rose up into heaven
In a cloud of purple haze
[Verse 2]
Once a strange dark cloud blew in
And hovered still above the tree
And whеn the fog had cleared
A man appеared mysteriously
He wore a long black cape
His eyes were glowing red
He said some magic words
And the tree withered up and bled
All the leaves turned black
And fell down to the ground
The cloud came back and swooped him up
And it made an evil sound
The leaves did not grow back
But the tree would never die
Now this ancient curse remains
Taunting those who walk close by
Many have been lured into their fate
By a somber, gentle breeze
Driven mad singing lullabies
Swinging from this hanging tree
[Verse 3]
Counting down the hours
Before the Halloween Ball begins
The hanging tree lights up with baskets
Of those hanging once again
The moon is rising up
Over the castle on the hill
Dark clouds are rolling in
But the cold air remains still
You can hear the haunting screams and moans
Coming from the tree
Begging for this ancient curse to lift
So that they can be set free
The sun shines down
Upon the tree on the hill
Summer starts to fade
And the air begins to chill
Legend tells a tale
Of a man who was found
Hung upon a cross
Upon this very sacred ground
He was laid in a tomb
