Charade by Arthur Isaacson Lyrics
Brilliant orange in the dark
Jagged teeth and eyes so stark
Flicker fear within the night
Known to all, this night’s trademark
All designed to be a sight
That fosters cringing, shaking, fright
As shadowed figures make their way
And scream and squeal in sheer delight
Who’s afoot beyond the day?
To taunt and plead for their buffet
Giving all to seek reward
Costumed for their frightening play
Little ones with mom or dad
See jack o lanterns, think they’re bad
Goblins ghosts and pirates too
Consume the booty they have had
Trick or treat? A threat not new
By skeletons opaque wearing shoes
Fear not struck within our hearts
We dare not laugh at little one’s boos
All in all, we’ve played our part
Convinced the little ones they’ve given starts
Shook and shuddered, given tithe
Hopefully, our fear impart
Then in sleep the wee are blithe
Convinced we feared for all our lives
And bravely dream of next year’s fun
When one more Halloween arrives.
Jagged teeth and eyes so stark
Flicker fear within the night
Known to all, this night’s trademark
All designed to be a sight
That fosters cringing, shaking, fright
As shadowed figures make their way
And scream and squeal in sheer delight
Who’s afoot beyond the day?
To taunt and plead for their buffet
Giving all to seek reward
Costumed for their frightening play
Little ones with mom or dad
See jack o lanterns, think they’re bad
Goblins ghosts and pirates too
Consume the booty they have had
Trick or treat? A threat not new
By skeletons opaque wearing shoes
Fear not struck within our hearts
We dare not laugh at little one’s boos
All in all, we’ve played our part
Convinced the little ones they’ve given starts
Shook and shuddered, given tithe
Hopefully, our fear impart
Then in sleep the wee are blithe
Convinced we feared for all our lives
And bravely dream of next year’s fun
When one more Halloween arrives.
